About Shastri Institute of Governance and Leadership (SIGL)


The Shastri Institute of Governance and Leadership (SIGL), New Delhi is a pioneer national-level distance learning institution imparting academic training in the areas of International Affairs, Government Studies, Ecology, Environment, Sustainable Development and Cleanliness Education established on the auspicious occasion of the 116th Birth Anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Bharat Ratna Shri. Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Taking forward the illustrious legacy of the former Prime Minister of India, Bharat Ratna, Shri. Lal Bahadur Shastri, SIGL was jointly established under the guidance and leadership of the former Prime Minister's family. The institution thereby lives by the principles of honesty, transparency and accountability which the former Prime Minister lived by and envisions imparting the same in its youth citizenry for which SIGL has received congratulatory appreciation from eminent personalities like the Hon'ble Vice President of India, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, Governors, University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to name a few.

The Shastri Institute of Governance and Leadership (SIGL) would be organizing and conducting programs having social, cultural, developmental, educational, technological, environmental and positive contents for the optimum development of our country along with teaching methodologies for ensuring gainful employment for the young boys and girls belonging to all the States and the Union Territories for producing trained manpower for leading flagship projects of the Government of India comprising Make in India, Clean India, Skill India, Digital India, Startup India, Aatma Nirbhar Bharat etc. Besides studies, training, research, consultancy and production of audio-video materials, the Institute has also decided to initiate a massive publications programme.

Carrying forward the legacy of Bharat Ratna Shri. Lal Bahadur Shastri, former Prime Minister of India

Shri Shastri‘s legacy is one of upholding the sanctity of the Indian Constitution and preparing the youth of India to meet the challenges of an increasingly globalized, interdependent, and uncertain world. In all of these roles, Shri Shastri has championed issues that lie at the heart of India’s social, economic, and developmental challenges – literacy, healthcare, food security, energy security, rural and urban planning, economic empowerment, governance and administrative reforms, and national and regional security.

SIGL would build impactful partnerships between governments, academia, public policy experts, corporates, community leaders, individuals, and other key partners to advance academic programs, research, provide policy advisory and engage in advocacy of important national and global issues in the areas of International Affairs, Government Studies and the Indian Foreign Policy.

Harnessing India's Soft Power Potential

SIGL would engage with practitioners, policy-makers, and other stakeholders to promote and disseminate knowledge and India’s cultural influence in the areas of Ayurveda, cinema, cuisine, design, handicrafts, sports, literature, music, performing arts, spirituality, tourism, and yoga along with national and international conferences & seminars highlighting India’s soft power potential and contribution to the world community at large. The Lal Bahadur Shastri Centre for Indian Culture with a Monument and a street (Shastri Street) is named after Shri. Shastri in the capital city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Creating Public Leaders

While India boasts some of excellent Higher Educational Institutes dedicated to academic and research excellence in fields of Engineering, Medical Sciences and Legal Studies, it truly lacks an institution solely dedicated to development, training and mentorship of Public leaders. SIGL aims to bridge that gap and equip Young People with relevant knowledge and skills to take up Public roles in the Government, Corporate, Non-Profit- Development and Social Sector.

Assist Governments, Corporates and Non-Profits

All three of these major stakeholders in Policy and Decision-making process seek talented and skilled manpower to take up various roles in conceptualization and effective delivery of Programs and Initiatives to promote overall economic and social development of the Nation. SIGL seeks to assist Governments at all levels, Private as well as Non-Profit sector to get access to highly trained and skilled Public Leadership and Management professionals.
